We were originally founded in 1993 in Nottingham as ‘RTP Systems'. The name changed to Orcus in 1999, and we have been situated in the Pride Park area of Derby since 2003.
The first product we developed was Retail 2000. This was DOS-based EPOS software which evolved into Myriad - the Windows-based system used by Orcus customers today.
We originally developed systems for ‘traditional' retailers and wholesalers who sold through tills and/or telephone and mail order. These systems have been developed over time to now encompass true multichannel retail.
Our customers still include retailers and wholesalers who sell through tills only, but many of them now make full use of the capability of Myriad. Among other things, Myriad can also be used to power transactional websites. Click here to see some examples
Looking to the future, we are happy to grow our customer base at a rate which will not compromise our service levels to existing customers. Thanks to the vast experience of our team of developers, we are able to stay at the cutting edge of retail technology.
There is no such thing as a ‘typical' Orcus customer, as they all operate in their own way. Among them are many jewellers, and retailers/wholesalers of clothing and fashion accessories, footwear, sportswear, giftware, furniture, interiors, hair and beauty products, jokes, toys, music, film, books, musical instruments, baby products, garden furniture, bicycles, cookware and household goods.
Geographically, our customers are spread throughout all corners of the UK, plus the Republic of Ireland and Spain. Many have been with us for several years, and around a third of them originally came to us as a result of recommendations from satisfied users.
