Orcus case study - Honeyjam. Honeyjam

Lifelong friends Honey Bowdrey and Jasmine Guinness created Honeyjam in 2006. Whilst unsuccessfully searching for fantastic toys for their children, they became frustrated at the dearth of suitable toyshops, and decided to open their own.

The store originally opened on London’s Portobello Road, and recently relocated a short hop around the corner to Blenheim Crescent. Packed with toys, costumes, pocket money treats and books, the store mixes the traditional with modern, and silly with educational.

Honey and Jasmine first approached Orcus in the autumn of 2010, at the Top Drawer retail trade show. After a thorough demonstration of Myriad, Honey decided to schedule an installation for January 2011, which would be a quiet time for the shop. Honeyjam were already using an EPOS system, but it was slow, unreliable, and was very poorly supported. One of the reasons Honey decided that Myriad was the right choice was that Orcus were happy to install it onto her existing till hardware, giving a substantial cost saving.

An untimely powercut at the shop in December 2010 meant that Myriad had to be installed earlier than planned. Although the till hardware still had power, the old EPOS system would simply not work, so Honey rang Orcus to see if they could help. Says Honey,

“The guys at Orcus were amazing, within a couple of hours of me calling them they had remotely installed Myriad so we were able to start using the tills again. Being a toyshop, December is our busiest time and so it was crucial that we could sell through the system. Even though we were without tills for just a morning, it was becoming impossible to handwrite receipts quickly enough to keep the queues down.”

After the Christmas rush, Honey, Jasmine and the rest of the team then set about making the most of Myriad. With thousands of new products from dozens of suppliers, according to Honey, controlling stock would have been quite a task without the straightforward management and categorisation functions:

“You can organise your products in a really simple way, and Myriad makes it easy to keep on top of suppliers and stock. I can’t imagine how we could manage everything without it.”

Honey is very pleased with her decision to install Myriad, and is a strong advocate for Orcus:

“Myriad is infinitely better than our old system, and the support and service we get from the Orcus support team is fantastic. They help you as soon as you call and they don’t patronise or confuse you with jargon. I would thoroughly recommend them.”
