Rise

Orcus case study - Rise. There are Rise stores in Bristol, Cheltenham, and Worcester (formerly Warwick). They are incredibly popular, offering a wide range of music, film and books across a number of formats. In 2010, Music Week awarded them the title of ’Independent Music Retailer of the Year’, and they were shortlisted for the same award in 2011.

All of the Rise stores are running the Myriad EPOS system, controlled from the head office store in Bristol. They also sell online via their Myriad-powered website.

Owner Lawrence Montgomery explains how Myriad is an essential part of their business:

“We have used Myriad for several years, both at Rise and in a previous venture. It is very reliable and easy to use. It lets us see what stock we have in which locations, what is selling quickly and what isn’t, and what our sales are at any point in the day.”

Myriad controls our purchasing and distribution, and it lets us easily upload new products in one go. We have large numbers of new release products to add on a weekly basis, so it is crucial that we get all the data onto the system quickly.

There are lots of things Myriad does which you take for granted, such as automatically printing out labels when you get a stock delivery, or generating suggested purchase orders when your stock levels are getting low.”

Away from the store side, Lawrence is quick to acknowledge the difference Myriad makes to a successful multichannel operation:

“Without it we wouldn’t be able to easily control what we sell online, or fulfil the web orders quickly. I can’t imagine how we would handle what stock we sell on the website and what we sell in the stores. Running the business without Myriad would be impossible.”

Whilst Lawrence is very happy with how Myriad works, he also pays tribute to the team behind it:

“I can’t fault the service from Orcus support staff, as our calls are always answered immediately by someone who knows the system inside out. I would not hesitate to recommend Orcus to any retailer.”
